I am 19 years old with experience in both healthcare and ABA therapy. Through these roles, I have developed skills that I believe are transferable to many fields, particularly due to the high level of responsibility involved in maintaining safety, as well as the strong teamwork and mutual respect required among coworkers in these settings.
As a behavior therapist, my role involved working with children on the autism spectrum and those with learning disabilities by providing ABA therapy. This included supporting clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) and building essential daily life skills. I also helped clients develop emotional regulation skills by teaching them how to identify, express, and appropriately respond to their emotions. In addition, I worked on school readiness skills to support successful participation in academic settings.
As a direct care staff member, my main responsibility was maintaining a clean and safe household environment at all times. This included ensuring residents were not at risk of harming themselves or others and that the living space remained sanitary to promote overall safety. I prepared meals, completed household cleaning tasks, and provided personal care, including occasional hygiene assistance and changing residents when needed. I also administered medications as prescribed and documented daily data and observations.
As a dietary aide, my primary responsibility was attending to residents during meals. I ensured all allergies and dietary restrictions were reviewed before taking orders, making note of who could and could not have certain foods. I was also responsible for monitoring residents to ensure safe eating practices, such as preventing speed eating and watching for choking risks.
