  • Working on the floor in the burn unit you have many duties. You provide bed side care and patient care duties. You take care of feedings, personal hygiene, call lights, wound care on every patient that is needed. Every patient's situation is very different when it comes to burns and or wounds. It is a very unique unit. You provide duties in Burn ICU and the step down unit as well as the Burn and Wound clinic. Working in a Trauma One level of care facility, you are learning something new every shift. It is a hands on unit and always need to be aware of what is going on when it comes to Burn and or Wound patients. Patients are in critical care when it comes to burns. Personal Hygiene, wound care, dressing changes, Nutritional intake, comfort and healing is just a fraction of what you would do on a shift in the burn unit.
  • When scheduled in the clinic as PSC you answer phones, listen to voicemails, receive and send faxes. You schedule apt.'s through clinic at HCMC and other Burn Clinics around the USA for pt.'s that come from out of state that need follow ups and or physical therapy. I would write notes in epic about pt. and what pt. needs for follow ups like CAT scan, fitting for a mold, cast or prosthetic etc. I would work closely with the Burn Plastic Surgeon and Physician Assistant and LPN in clinic to ensure admin duties. We work closely with Surgeons and Physicians Assistant's to fit pt.'s schedules and lifestyle apt.'s and procedures. We would fax, email and mail for clinics and inpatient floors. We also put together Education for pt.'s and family members using Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Power Point. I would perform bed side care and patient care if that is what that unit needed.
