I started as a disher at Cornerstone Cafe when I was 14, I held the position steady for two years but with no effort on the behalf of my employers to move me up to the line to cook no matter how many requests I made, I eventually left this position. I went to Perkins next in an attempt to become a cook and I held that position for a period before moving up front in hopes of becoming a server. It was also during this period I started writing at the Monticello Times as a weekly local history columnist. After a while of not being moved up from a host to a server I left and went to Beef O’ Brady’s to be a lead line cook, this didn’t work out so I went to the Hasty Diner for better pay. I held a lead line cook position and I only left because of a disagreement with a coworker.
