•Charlton 8A- Therapeutic Apheresis Treatment Unit (TATU)
•Specializes in Therapeutic Apheresis procedures using multiple different machines that separate and remove blood components for therapeutic purposes. This involves infusing blood components and fluids while monitoring the patient's clinical status, managing venous access, and monitoring for adverse reactions related to the procedure. These procedures include: Stem Cell Collections, CAR-T collections, IRB/Research collections, Therapeutic Plasma Exchanges, Photopheresis, Therapeutic Cytoreductions, and Therapeutic Red Blood Cell Exchanges.
•Works with multiple different specialties including: Heme/Onc/BMT, Neurology, Dermatology, Nephrology, Pediatric Heme/Onc, Cardiac, Lung, Liver and Kidney Transplant.
•Provides care to a wide range of patients, including healthy donors, acutely, chronically and critically ill patients in both the outpatient and inpatient setting. This includes pediatric and adult patients.
•Provides independent patient care in various settings, including the Outpatient Apheresis unit, at the bedside in General Care (both SMH/RMH campuses), critically ill patients in the ICUs (both SMH/RMH campuses), the Pediatric ICU, and in the OR (for heart and lung transplant patients).
•Charge RN from May 2021- July 2024. Managing the day to day operation of the 15 bed procedural unit of RNs and Desk Staff. Working directly with Transfusion Medicine Residents and Consultants, in addition to Outpatient RN Coordinators and Inpatient RNs. Facilitating emergency procedures being added to the TATU schedule. I continue to mentor the current Charge RNs/Team Leads in decision making.
▪︎Works on-call coverage from 1700-0630 for emergency procedures.
•Primary preceptor to Photopheresis procedures. I am currently the only person training orientees to this procedure. I also am a secondary preceptor to the other procedures.
• Expertise in working and troubleshooting Apheresis machines.
•Adherence to Nursing procedural guidelines, DLMP (Department of Laboratory Medicine) Standards of Practice, and governing agencies, such as: AABB, FACT, CLIA, CAP, FDA.
