As a Patient Care Assistant, I provided specialized 1:1 nursing care for a child with Pfeiffer Syndrome Type II, which gave me hands-on experience with complex, high-acuity needs. My responsibilities included daily tracheostomy care, G-tube feedings, suctioning, and managing oxygen and emergency equipment, all while maintaining a calm and safe environment. I handled personal care, mobility, and safe transport to medical appointments and community outings, ensuring continuity of care outside the home. In addition to direct medical support, I supervised day-to-day safety, prepared care supplies, and maintained a clean and organized care setting to protect the child’s health. This role strengthened my confidence, clinical judgment, and ability to remain focused and compassionate in situations that require close monitoring and quick decision-making—skills I’m eager to bring into a nursing internship.
