- Cities United is a program that supports youth in building and practicing social and emotional skills. I worked at Cities United as an intern for three months. Each city (I worked at the City Hall of Brooklyn Park) had about six interns from different high schools, all aiming to create ways to engage the youth in our communities. My individual goal was to manage educational workshops, which were mostly hosted in community centers, elementary schools, and sometimes at City Hall. I researched and presented weekly on how we could help increase access to educational opportunities. We provided homework help for various subjects, created workshops, and organized volunteer activities such as CEAP (Community Emergency Assistance Program), where groups of young adults and teens assisted with soup kitchens, folded and bagged clothes for the needy, and more. Overall, it was a great experience that allowed me to develop my leadership skills, take responsibility, and collaborate with my colleagues.
